Description

This individual is responsible for the sales of Hydro Turbine Systems, Services and Parts (HTS) to North American customers (OEM’s, Utilities, Independent Power Producers and Developers). This individual acts as the technology expert for HPSA’s knowledge base of Hydro Turbine Systems.  Provides managerial oversight of HTS technology for proposal efforts, opportunity development and product marketing. The volume of sales will be determined to support the division’s budgeted goals.

Experience and Competencies

This individual must have direct experience with developing, selling or executing projects in the HTS field associated with power generation facilities in the US market. He or she must have a working understanding of the technical, performance, construction and financing components of the HTS market for electric power generation projects. This individual must be self-motivated and able to function effectively with minimum support. Individuals must be sensitive and perform effectively in a multicultural environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop sales opportunities for HPSA.
  • Support engineering activities that help establish HPSA’s technical advantages on projects.
  • Meet with potential customers, develop relationships and gather detailed information regarding their projects. This information will include, as a minimum, the project’s owners, size and location of the project, cost of the fuel, status of permit acquisitions, transmission grid interconnection information, power sales plan, overall expected project financial performance (pro forma) and competitor’s activities.
  • Develop estimates and preliminary technical information to support the customer’s development activities.
  • Support internal discussions to assess the viability of projects.
  • Develop Sales Plans for each opportunity.
  • Contact customers frequently to track the development status.
  • Maintain databases that track project’s status.
  • Assist in the development of proposals, clarify and supplement bids, influence the customer’s evaluation in favor of HPSA and report the status of the evaluation to HPSA management
  • Monitor and report competitor’s activities in the market and on individual projects.
  • Participate in frequent, at times, international conference calls to update management on the status and activities on projects.
  • Support contract negotiation activities.
  • Monitor project execution activities and report to management.
  • Responsible for Sales and Marketing of the HTS Product Line
  • Duties include business development, support contract negotiation, and strategic & tactical planning.
  • Create and make presentations at potential new customer sites
  • Assist to develop specifications and proposals as required.
  • Actively participate in the development of sales forecasts as an aid to management
  • Be alert to competitive products and marketing practices and to keep management informed concerning same.
  • Create and maintain customer data base as well as technical and commercial database.
  • Submit reports daily, weekly or monthly as required regarding the activity in assigned territory, acceptance or rejection of the products and competitive conditions beneficial to company operations/planning.
  • Attend and participate in Sales Meetings, Training Programs and Trade Shows
  • Constant correspondence with counter parts in Japan regarding market activities. Completed through nightly phone discussions and email communication.
  • Travel expectation required is 3 times per week visiting potential customers.
  • Stay within allocated and assigned travel budget requirements. Expected to be XX $/month.
  • Achieve order budget target of XX $ million for ‘10 Target.

Travel Requirements

Contact with customers is essential to the success in this position. 60 to 80% travel is required.
