Purpose of Position
Provide control systems engineering support for projects and proposals. Primary focus is on preparation of detailed engineering drawings & lists, procurement, vendor drawing review, narratives, O&M contributions, and commissioning/start-up support. Work in a team-oriented environment under conditions associated with liquidated damages for critical project deadlines.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- 4-Year Engineering Degree with 10 yrs experience with control and instrument systems
Managerial experience with direct reports
- Expertise with SAMA diagrams and Boolean Logic diagram generation
- Key I&C experience for systems related to BOILER, AQCS, FGD, or SCR systems
CEM and/or process analyzer specification and vendor work package management
Experience with Control Valve sizing
- Professional demeanor, self-motivated, energetic and enthusiastic with communication and interpersonal skills.
- Develop working relationship with instrument designers.
- Strong understanding of logic: digital, analog and sequential logic, and process related closed-loop control systems.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of I&C products, flow devices, distributed control systems and PLC
- Read and understands electrical schematics, configuration drawings and ladder diagrams
- Effectively communicates orally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.

- Ability to train, mentor and monitor others for engineering deliverables.
- Follows instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job under minimal supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Department Manager in daily engineering and design functions including Standards and Procedures
If assigned as Lead Engineer, responsible for the entire I&C project activities as well as supervise responsible I&C engineers and designer. Able to interface with customers in the I&C areas.
- Interface and communicate with vendors, interdisciplinary engineering, engineering contractors, site startup personnel and project management.
- Understand and adhere to project budgets for MH’s and instrument purchases.
Review customer’s proposal specifications, and schedule, for I&C content. Develop instrument cost estimates; and, exceptions and clarifications to these proposal specifications.
- Develop binary and analog logic diagrams in sufficient detail for DCS programming.
Develop I/O data base for customer’s DCS.
- Effectively reuse existing drawings for new projects.
- Represent Hitachi during the customer’s DCS Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Follow-up with changes from site installations for logic diagram revisions.
- Analyze site problems and make recommendations for resolution.
- Understand the contractual project scope for detection of non-scope work.
- Generate instrument and control valve specifications for purchase. Develop bid analysis and work with the Purchasing Dept for awards.
- Support other disciplines for instrument content for specifications, plant design drawings and process design. Actively participate with the formulation of P&ID’s.
- Review instrument installation, instrument connection and instrument location drawings.
- Perform detailed drawing reviews for all mechanical equipment packages for instrument and control content.
- Develop comprehensive instrument data base using information from instrument vendors and from all mechanical equipment suppliers.
- Develop Standards for instrument specifications and logic diagrams.
