Boiler Feedpump Turbines

Hitachi Power Systems America supplies turbine drives to fit a wide range of applications in the power and process industry.

Typical applications for the power industry are Boiler Feed-Pump and Reactor Feed-Pump drives. Hitachi steam turbine drives have extensive operating hours in power plants from 250 to 1000 MWs. Experience Lists are available upon request.

Hitachi has contracted in North America for one set (two units) of steam turbine drives for Walter Scott, Jr. Energy Center, Unit 4, J.K. Spruce Unit 2, Trimble County Unit 2; Sandy Creek Energy Station, and two sets for Elm Road Units 1 and 2.

Standardized Product Range

  • Steam Source: Main Steam, Turbine Extraction Steam and/or Aux. Steam
  • Exhaust Type: Surface Condenser or Back Pressure Type
  • Exhaust Direction: Top Exhaust or Downward Exhaust
  • Capacity: - Single Flow (for mid-size units up to ~850 MW plant), or Double Flow (for large units >850 MW)
  • Shaft Rotation: Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise

Main Features of BFP Drive Turbine

Impulse type stage design

  • Highly efficient nozzles and buckets with laminar profiles.
  • Minimized inter-stage steam leakage.

Dual admission governing stage

  • Multi-steam sources - HP and LP steam. Parallel admission from both steam sources are possible.

Low thermal stress design and rapid start up capability

  • Symmetrical design of casing.
  • Free thermal expansion of HP nozzle box.
  • High load-duty thrust bearing.
  • Continuous bearing vibration measurement.
  • Free thermal expansion support of front standard.

Highly responsible governor

  • Electro-hydraulic speed governor.
  • Wide range speed control between 20~100% of rated speed.

Highly maintenable construction

  • Horizontally split casing flange with full metal to metal contact at center height of machine.
  • Field rotor balance without casing disassembly.
  • Capable of journal bearing change without casing and rotor disassembly.

Steam sealed shaft glands

  • Integrated to steam seal system of main turbine.
  • Separate gland seal condenser of surface type.
